Abstract [sv]

The authors have identified a gap within the knowledge about outsourcing R&D-assignment, the gap is most obvious among the cons. The experience of outsourcing R&D within 13 companies has been documented. The gathering was focused on the pros and cons according to the companies. The purpose is to gain the understanding of the occurrence outsourcing R&D. This is done by identifying the difference between the pros and cons that the companies stated contra what the literature about general outsourcing established. A significant difference between the times of identifying pros and cons has been pointed out. The thesis shows that companies “beautify” the picture of outsourcing R&D by pre-identifying lots more pros than cons. The experience is a recurring issue, companies with great experience are better to pre-identify both pros and cons, and through this foresee future complication.
