Becoming a Women
Halmstad University, School of Teacher Education (LUT).
2002 (English)Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor)Student thesis
Abstract [en]
In this essay, it will be argued that Bobbie Ann Mason's In Country` it is a novel of development. Furthermore, I will discuss why relations and future plans play an important part in defining it as a novel of development. On a personal level, the choice of literature as the subject of my essay stems from an early interest in literature which was encouraged by my family and in school. One of my first captivating reading experiences -even though I was far too young to be able to identify with the main character at the time - was Gunnel Beckman's Mia serie. They have a lot in common with Bobby Ann Mason's novel. They are both about a young woman in her late teens and they each take up serious subjects vital to the young women's lives. They both have features of develpoment and they both share the same motto "always make an effort to understand the world and the people around you".
