Abstract [en]
The amount and composition of different algae and the distribution of Platorchestia platensis and Orchestia gammarellus (Amphipoda: Talitridae) in the seaweed banks, was studied at six localities along the Swedish West Coast. According to old data P. platensis has out-dominated O. gammarellus at many localities (Persson, L-E.). The effect the increased amount of filamentous algae has on Talitridae species is unknown. This study could not prove any significant correlation between the amount filamentous algae and the presence of Talitridae sp. The inventory showed that the amount of Talitridae sp. present in the seaweed banks is depending on special environments. If the weight of the seaweed bank had any correlation with the amount of Talitridae sp. present were studied, with a statistical significant result. An old finding location of O. gammarellus was revisited and revealed that the species still was present, but in lower amounts compared to in 1963 (Karlbrink).
