The internationalisation Process of Companies, -The Example of Glass Making Companies of Sweden-
Halmstad University, School of Business and Engineering (SET).
2005 (English)Independent thesis Advanced level (degree of Master (One Year))Student thesis
Abstract [en]
This work examines the internationalisation process of the Swedish glass making companies that are situated in the “Kingdom of Crystal” region of Sweden. A qualitative study was conducted with the purpose of trying to understand why and how Swedish glass making companies decide to go international. This study has used the Uppsala Model as a theoretical framework for the reasons that are motivated further in the paper. The analysis has consisted of a comparison of the empirical findings given by the interviews of two of these companies, with the theoretical findings. Conclusions have then been drawn from the results of this analysis. The results show that these companies decided to go international in order to expand their activity. The critical success factors to this international expansion are linked to knowledge and relationships. Indeed these companies try to establish strategic relationships that will help them to overcome the problems due to a lack of knowledge about foreign markets.
