Abstract [en]
This study is a qualitative study of six Tunisian companies within the mechanical and electrical branch. The objective of the study is to show how Tunisian companies internationalise and to see what factors that are influencing their degree of internationalisation. Internationalisation is a wide concept that I have limited in this composition only to concern export activities. In order to study this subject I have chosen companies with a different degree of internationalisation and I have looked at six different parts in the company influencing the degree of export according the model by Byberg (2000) 1- Internal Prerequisites 2- External Prerequisites 3- Management 4- Social Relations 5- Export Behaviour 4- Intentions & Export Strategies With this model as start point I have interviewed the companies concerning the different factors mentioned in the model. The result has shown that the Tunisian companies internationalise by highly focusing the quality and the price of the product while international marketing tools are being more or less neglected. Furthermore it has been shown that the factors influencing the degree of internationalisation within the Tunisian companies in the mechanical and electrical branch are: 1. The lack of motivated, responsible and creative employees. 2. The lack of qualified leaders and managers with vision, ethics and realism 3. The access to know how and financial partners as a result of the lack of supporting industries and technical know how in the Tunisian environment
