Abstract [sv]
The purpose with our work is to develop a security solution for the assigner’s product NetBiter and implement it. NetBiter is an embedded computer system used for communication in industrial applications using the ModBus standard. Practically, a lot of our work is to secure existing services present on NetBiter and make sure that they work on platform, despite its limited hardware. NetBiter is an existing product that is currently being sold by the assigner; this means that we have limited possibilities to change the software that is being used on the system. As a part of our work, we have also conducted an investigation where we have studied similar products from other manufacturers and compared their security solutions to that of NetBiter. This report discusses underlying theories, methologies and technologies that are the foundation for our work, along with the development process and the subsequent results. Technologies that we utilize includes the SSL/TLS-suite known as OpenSSL, a specialized Linux distribution (ìClinux) and a XMPP library (Iksemel). The assigner of this project is Intellicom Innovation AB.
