Swedish Student’s Comprehension of Spoken English
Halmstad University, School of Teacher Education (LUT).
2004 (English)Independent thesis Advanced level (degree of Master (One Year))Student thesis
Abstract [en]
The main aim og this study is to look at Swedish students’ abilities within the area of listening comprehension. Furthermore, the effect which age, gender and mother tongue might have on students’ listening skills will also be discussed. The study is based on the results from three different groups on the Listening comprehension part of a National test and on the results from a questionnaire concerning the students’ habits regarding English as a second language. The students were both upper secondary school students and university students. The results from the test showed that the group who had studied Enhlish the longest were also the group who achieved the highest average score. The questionnaire results showed that there were some clear correlations between the students’ results and their habits regarding the English language.
