Conceptual redesign of a towing tractor
Halmstad University, School of Business and Engineering (SET).
2005 (English)Independent thesis Advanced level (degree of Master (One Year))Student thesis
Abstract [en]
Since the early 90’s only small changes in the design have been made to the towing tractor Steeltrac E3-30, a vehicle mostly used in airports for luggage handling. The objectives of this master’s thesis were to make a conceptual redesign of the truck, comprised of the interior and exterior as well as functional and ergonomic aspects. The methodology and the process used are mainly based on Ullmans theories for product development. Parts of the results are conceptual and may be seen more as a vision for which Steeltrac AB can strive towards. The new concept truck has a more dynamic and stronger design and the truck expresses strength and tow ability instead of speed. The interior is significantly improved through a rearrangement of the controls and functions. This, and added functions like storage space, create better working conditions and reflect the goal of simplicity, consistency, and usability.
