Abstract [en]

This essay is based on an English reading comprehension test and a questionnaire given to 48 students studying different courses or programmes at university level. The students are either attending an English course, a course in another language or the ‘Elektroteknik’ or ‘Mekatronik’ programmes. The aim is to investigate how good Swedish university students are at understanding written English. Moreover, differences between students who have chosen a linguistic education and students who have chosen a more mathematically orientated one will be investigated. Finally, individual differences such as motivation and previous language studies will be looked at to see if there are any connections with the results.
