A Study of Upper Secondary Students’ Mastery of English Prepositions
Halmstad University, School of Teacher Education (LUT).
2004 (English)Independent thesis Advanced level (degree of Master (One Year))Student thesis
Abstract [en]
This paper is baesd on two prepositional tests given to students at the A- and B- level at a Swedish Upper Secondary school, and it investigates students’ knowledge of prepositional uses. The main purpose was to investigate which prepositional uses students found to be most difficult, but also to find out if their knowledge could be improved by teaching them different prepositional uses. The results show that prepositional knowledge among Upper Secondary students is surprisingly low, but that it could be improved by teaching them the three groups pf prepositional uses, i.e basic, systematic and idiomatic, which were adopted from an earlier investigation made by Karlsson.
