It is hard to find useful tools to handle XML documents with various structures and to summarize these as different reports. Those applications and tools that we have evaluated at the beginning of our project had all their drawbacks and weaknesses. Some had to complicated interfaces and functionality, others were to expensive or not directed to only handling XML. To be able to develop a useful tool, a major part of our work has been to understand and get knowing the most important part of our project: XML and related technologies for XML, such as XSLT and XSL-FO. The purpose of our project was to develop a generic application with focus on XML documents. It was aimed to be used to put together content from several documents into a report, presented in two common presentation formats, PDF and XHTML. An important condition to be able to do this has been the access to useful code libraries under various "open source" licenses. The result of the project is an application with a simple interface, which is made of two main parts, a navigation tree for XML documents and a graphical presentation of the content of the report. The final report can be exported to various formats through the build in exporting engine.
