Abstract [sv]
The task of this project was to develop a hardware platform for a payment terminal handling the new generation payment cards. The terminal is to be certified according to the EMV 2000 specification developed by Europay, Mastercard and Visa. The new payment system is based on the Smart Card technology. A Smart Card is a plastic card with a built-in microprocessor. The reason for this change of technology is to increase the level of security compared to the old magnetic card based system and there by lower the cost for credit card fraud. The main security gain is from offline transactions where the old system has its main flaws. This project has resulted in a prototype of the platform. Software in form of drivers for the hardware has also been developed. The platform is a good foundation for the continued work towards a functioning payment terminal.
