Abstract [sv]

The purpose of this project has been to develop a system for downloading and showing meteorological maps and prognoses from Internet on a personal computer. The project has been carried out in collaboration with the Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological Institute (SMHI). Several problems were to be solved; the most important one was to allow users to use the system without a continuous connection to the Internet. When connected the user should be able to control the amount of information to download depending on available bandwidth. As a solution we suggested that a Java application should be implemented. The application can easily be installed and updated thanks to Java Network Launching Protocol (JNLP) which is a technology that enables the launching of remote Java applications.
