Personligheten, familjen och författarskapet: En studie av sex Jane Austen biografier
Halmstad University, School of Humanities (HUM).
2004 (Swedish)Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor)Student thesis
Abstract [sv]
This essay analyses and compares six biographies of Jane Austen written between 1870 and 1997. Half of the biographies are written by relatives of Jane Austen while the other half are written by academics. The aim of this essay is to discuss and compare the chosen biographies in order to identify significant differences between the biographies written by relatives and the ones written by academics. Jane Austen’s personality, her family, and her authorship are the specific areas around which the analysis is centered. The essay demonstrates that there are important differences between the biographies authored by relatives and those written by academics. For instance, the academics’ works often tend to focus somewhat more on Austen’s authorship while the biographies written by relatives of Jane Austen give more attention to her personal life.
