Abstract [sv]
Sweden spends more money as a percentage of the GDP on research and development (R&D) than any other OECD country. The outcome is however relatively modest with few new enterprises based upon high technology innovations, the so-called Swedish paradox. One way to increase the number of new high technology companies is by increasing commercialization of university research, so called Research Based Spin-Offs (RBSOs). The universities have a key role in transforming the scientists’, often, minor knowledge in entrepreneurial issues. Moreover, it is important to start more new RBSOs based upon these results. With this in mind we found it most interesting and challenging trying to find key issues that play a vital role in commercialisation of research results. The purpose of the thesis is to describe the commercialization process from five swedish institutions and identify the key actors in the process. We will, in addition to this, create knowledge of factors influencing the level of research-based commercialization.
