Abstract [sv]
This paper consists of 93 interviews conducted per telephone with the managing director of each firm. The empirical base consists of high performing firms and low performing firms in different industries located all over Sweden. The purpose with this paper is to investigate differences and similarities between high performing firms and low performing firms regarding the attitudes towards competence development. Previous research together with our results indicates some conclusions about the attitude towards competence development among Swedish SMEs. The result indicates statistical significant differences in the attitude towards competence development between high performing firms and low performing firms. We are not able to proof that competence development is a variable directly related to firm growth, on the other hand we can conclude that this paper gives us implications of competence development is a possible variable leading to firm growth.
