Demonstrator and testing platform for fingerprint biometrics
Halmstad University, School of Information Science, Computer and Electrical Engineering (IDE).
2003 (English)Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor)Student thesis
Abstract [en]
The work was oriented around the construction of a demonstration and testing platform for fingerprint biometrics (FPD) on a low-end system. The goal for creating FPD was to implement an easy-to-use environment, for implementation of biometric fingerprint algorithms. The hardware platform for FPD is exclusively the iPAQ h5450 pocket PC, manufactured by Hewlett Packard. It should work well with the general h5000 series, which is the series with integrated fingerprint reader, but no testing has been conducted. With FPD, the researcher is completely shielded from the surrounding programming issues, such as GUI, I/O, file system and sensor access. The researcher can concentrate solely on the efficient implementation of algorithms. This paper also reports on the attempt to implement an algorithm for estimating linear symmetry in fingerprints. The aim was to explore if linear symmetries could be used to estimate local quality in an image.
