Abstract [sv]
The Thesis work has been done in cooperation with HMS Industrial Networks AB in Halmstad. The assignment was to make an evaluation on the possibility to integrate a programmable software block into HMS network module AnyBus. The programmable block would make the AnyBus more flexible to the end-user. The evaluation has been done on an ABC platform (AnyBus Communicator) based on a processor from Hitachi (H8S/2350) and available memory of 128 kB RAM and 512 kB flash. The programmable block consists of a Java Virtual Machine from Sun Microsystems Inc. The name of the VM is KVM (K Virtual Machine). This KVM has been ported and optimised to work together with the AnyBus. The goal is that a product that contains drivers for an industrial communication interface and other hardware drivers could be programmed to change its functionality to different working conditions. For example, a customer gives the possibility to implement his own serial protocol in the AnyBus so he can connect a machine regardless of which protocol the machine has.
