Abstract [en]
Today’s electrical control systems and its constant development have opened a whole new world of possibilities. The progress in telematic has made it possible to reach almost every corner of the planet with information, and the vehicle industry are not far behind. Using different tools on the Volvo Penta EDC system we can read data and parameters from the engine, which can be used effectively. The latest tool is a pocket computer with a program called Vodia. With this new product it is possible to run diagnosis, read information about parameters, and download new software into the control units. Volvo Penta is working with an American company, VISTAR, which has developed a terminal that communicates via satellites. These terminals are placed in boats and sends information about position, emergency and water level. These new terminals awakens other applications like remote diagnostics. This report describes the development of a system and solutions of problems which occurred during the course of my work. The interviews were made with personnel within Volvo who are all related using or developing new products.
