2003 (English)Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor)Student thesis
Abstract [en]
The purpose of this essay was to address the issue of whether the different leadership styles transformational (TF), transactional (TA) and laissez-faire (LF) leadership can be associated with the general work motivation within the team and what this relationship looks like. Previous studies indicated a strong positive relationship between TF leadership and work motivation and a positive relationship between TA leadership and work motivation. No connection was found between LF leadership and work motivation. To be able to fulfill our purpose we conducted a survey at a real estate company. A quantitative approach was used on a number of employees who filled out two different questionnaires; one concerning their leader and one concerning their work motivation. These two models were then correlated against eachother. The results showed that there was generally a negative association between transformational leadership and work motivation, a positive association between transactional leadership and work motivation and a positive association between laissez-faire leadership and work motivation.
