Abstract [sv]

Innovativeness is a factor of great importance for the survival of corporations. The software industry is a relatively young line of business and the research has had a slow progress, especially research within innovativeness in software development. In this study we have created a more understandable view of different factors which supports or impedes the innovativeness in software development. We have also studied which conditions must be met to make a higher extent of innovativeness in this line of business possible. We have found that the software industry suffers from two dilemmas. The first dilemma derives from the fact that software development needs strict control in order to make commercialization possible, even though innovativeness is created with soft control and independence. The second dilemma is standardization, that obstructs innovativeness but is needed because of complexity and compatibility problems. Further results mostly confirm earlier research with some deeper explanations.
