Abstract [sv]

One type of organization that help new technology-based firms survive during their first critical years is the Business Incubator. We have in this thesis studied evaluation processes in Business Incubators. The problem is that it is difficult, in an early stage, to estimate the potential of a new business idea. Evaluation in the Business Incubator is used both for selecting promising tenants and obtain information used to give the tenants the correct support at the time of need. Our conclusion is that a well defined and adapted evaluation positively affects both the incubator's activities as well as the tentants' activities. Evaluation should be performed as a continous process, where consideration is taken to both short- and long-term needs and problems. Further depends the design of the evaluation process on how the context of the business incubator looks like, and what aims have been set up for the activity.
