Gender and Conversation Analysis. Differences in Speech between Men and Women
Halmstad University, School of Humanities (HUM).
2002 (English)Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor)Student thesis
Abstract [en]
The aim of this essay is to perform a conversation analysis of selected data from the MICASE corpus. I analyse three different sequences. The first is called “Graduate Student Research Interview”. The second is called “Interview with Botanist” and the third is called “Math Study Group”. I focus on whether the differences between men and women are related to gender or due to the social status. I analyse features such as back channels, interruptions and I compare the findings from this small study with findings from previous gender studies.
