Abstract [en]

"To kill a Mockingbird"'s central theme of morality signifies and analysis of how its essential morals cohere. The innocent owners of the moral voice of authority are the children (Scout, Jem and Dill). Another owner is implied by three morals analyzed, which consequently stands as the contradictory element. This kind of analysis made the New Critical- and the Ethical Critical methods appropriate. Analysis by these methods shows that the three morals cohere. The morals involved work at different levels. In contradiction to what the three morals imply it is the children that carry the moral voice of authority, which stems from the Christian religion. Since they are unaware of their position they cannot misuse the power it imposes. The children's moral voice of authority has not been examined before, and the issue of morals is significant because readers may be influenced by the novel's messages.
