Abstract [sv]
This work is about the norms and regulations that a society forces upon its inhabitants. We ask a specific question wich is as follows; how does young homosexual men and women feel about “coming out” and by that possibly being labled as deviants? The meaning of the work is to highligh the process in society that makes us regard some people as “normal” and other people as “deviant”. This in the hope of increasing tolerance for certain deviant behaviours, by increasing the knowledge of them. The study was conducted using qualitative interviews with young homosexuals, considering their experiences of reactions they got from other people. The raw material gathered from these interviews were interpreted using the principles of the hermeneutic approach. We did not seek an absolute truth, but instead we were looking for new to understand the phenomena of how deviants are treated by the so called “normals”, and also why they are considered deviants. Deviance in this case was defined as “not heterosexual”. Results showed that homosexuality is seen as a deviance because of the fact that a majority of all humans are heterosexual, and by breaking the norms created by this heterosexist majority, homosexual men and women are subject to more or less severe consequences.
