Abstract [sv]
This Bachelor of Science thesis describes a small portable mp3 player. Mp3 (mpeg 1 and 2, layer 3) is a way to compress music. Compressed music files take less space to store than ordinary (uncompressed) music files. The Mp3 player uses a MultiMediaCard (MMC) to store the compressed music. The Mp3-player canbe fitted with a data flash mempry, which makes it possible to store music and to copy music from one MMC to another. The Mp3-player can connect to a Personal Digital Assistant (PALM m500, m505, m125). The PDA user can make playlists, and the PDA(Personal Digital Assistant) can show information about the music. When not connected to the PDA it will work as a standalone-player, but the information about the song will not be displayed and playlists cannot be made. The Mp3-player is based upon a chip the T89C51SND1 made by Atmel Corporation. The T89C51SND1 is a processor with internal mp3 decoder. It has several interfaces for external communication (USB, UART).
