Abstract [sv]

This assignment is done for Ericsson, at the department for software development in Lysekil. The idea behind the assignment is to investigate if the development tool Telelogic Tau SDL Suite can improve the quality of the software that Ericsson maintains at the department in Lysekil. The employees often have to spend a lot of time on understanding source code written by other departments of the company. The reason is that the source code often is very poorly documented, and sometimes there is no documentation at all. The development tool will be used for re-designing software that already exists. A graphical SDL model is created through reverse engineering of the source code. The assignment will result in a recommendation to Ericsson whether or not they should start using the development tool and in their developing process. During the progress of the work it has become clear that it is the process diagrams and the MSC diagrams makes the understanding of the code easier. The block diagrams however make the signal routes clearer and easy to see. The tool is easy to use, and easy to learn. It also has many good functions that can be very useful for the department.
