Abstract [sv]
The rise of the network society is changing our lives and ideas and the political worlds we inhabit. In this essay, about ideology and the network society, I discuss and analyse the ideology and ideas, and a number of interconnected variables, of the Swedish Attac-movement, through a hypothetic-deductiv method. The purpose of the essay was to find out if the ideology of the Swedish Attac-movement could be understood, and explained, as shapened by, the so called, network society, described mostly by Manuel Castells, in his work about the information age, and thereby create an understanding of how ideas are shapened by the network society. For my research I used vital documents, including, most important of all, the program-material of the movement. I also conducted interviews with relative ”high-standing” members of the movement. What my research pointed out was that many factors of the movements´ ideas, its causal- and principled beliefs and also the world view, or ideology, of the movement, could in fact be understood and explained in the light of the network society, and the new societal conditions it has created.
