Abstract [sv]

This Minor Thesis studies the immigrations policies of Denmark and Sweden offering a comparioson and deremination of the countries´ policy model. Denmark and Sweden have many similarities. Both countries have a Scandinavian welfare model and both are members of European Union. In spite of that both have experienced and dealt with the migration flows differently. The theory model in this essay presents Professor Miles Williams´ chart “Migration Policy: A Synthesis of Immigration and Immigrant Policies” composed of a vertical and horizontal axis. The vertical axe regards the immigrant policies and the horizontal one regards the immigration policies. By crossing the two axes four different ideal types of migration policy models appear. Using different criteria four ideal types are established: Integration, Nativist, Isolation and Assimilation model. The Integration model is characterised by an open immigration policy and a multicultureal immigrant policy. The Isolation model has a closed immigration policy and multicultural immigrant policy. The Nativist model has a closed immigration policy and a monocultural immigrant policy. The assimilation model has an open immigration policy and a monocultural immigrant policy. The study result shows that Denmark has an Isolation model Sweden has an Integration model.
