2002 (Swedish)Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor)Student thesis
Abstract [sv]
This essay is about the Kautokeino tragedy in northern Norway, which resulted in the murder of two persons. As a result of this religious inspired tragedy, the bishop in Tromsö accused a Swedish preacher (Lars Levi Laesadius) for inspiring and supporting the fanatic murders. The aim of the essay is to find out on what basis the accusations of Laestadius was grounded and to describe his role in the tragedy. The theory on which the essay is based is the one on "rational choice". The literature that is used for this essay is secondary sources and academic essays. The conclusions show that the theory explains the causes of the accusations of Laestadius but the essay also shows that there are flaws in the theory and that other factors has to be included to fully understand the tragedy.
