Logging Transient Disturbances in Vehicles
Halmstad University, School of Information Science, Computer and Electrical Engineering (IDE).
2002 (Swedish)Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor)Student thesis
Abstract [sv]
This thesis, titled Logging Transient Disturbances in Vehicles, was issued by SAAB Automobile AB in Trollhättan, Sweden. An increasing number of electronic devices are being introduced into vehicle designs. It has become necessary, therefore, to consider the electrical and electromagnetic environment in which these devices are required to operate; in particular, disturbances generated within the vehicle electrical system itself. The purpose of this project was to create a device, which would enable logging of these disturbances, called transients. Using this device, logged data could then act as a statistical framework for choosing which test-pulses components must be able to endure. SAAB required only that the solution device be portable. The company had expressed a desire to store all raw data in the hard drive. Continous data transfer was prioritized because it was impossible to know the duration, amplitude, etc. of the transients in advance. Extended research of different hardware and software solutions resulted in a data-acquisition-device, DAQPad-6070E from National Instruments, which best met the company’s demands and desires. The final cost of the project was 51,000 Swedish Kronor, very near to SAAB’s anticipation of 50,000 Kronor. Program testing was completed continously during software development. When the program appeared to work properly, further tests were administered with specially designed signal generators. When the device was finally tested in a vehicle, it worked as expected and the constructors were satisfied with the result.
