Abstract [sv]
The purpose of this work has been to continue an earlier project, which aims at a construction of a 2GHz radio wave FX-correlator. The FX-correlation technique is to be used to form a 3D image of a burden surface in a blast furnace. This makes it possible to regulate the production process in a more convenient way, and save up to 10% of the energy used in the blast furnace. Our part was to provide a Digital Signal Processor (DSP) and a PC with necessary software. Construction of additional hardware interface between the DSP and a 250Msps sample unit was also a part of the project. The DSP software handles the communication with the sample unit and performs a Fast Fourier Transformation (FFT) of the data. The result is sent to a PC for further digital signal processing and graphic presentation. The PC environment was constructed in LabView, which is a user friendly and a foreseeable graphic interface towards the user. The FX-correlation is performed within the LabView program. FX-correlation is when two received signals (at the same frequencies) get multiplied in the frequency domain. The result is a phase difference, which is important information when the image shall be created, but the handling of this information is beyond the scope of this project.
