Abstract [sv]

Since the beginning man has dreamt of replacing old and worn organs with new ones. The first human hearttransplantation was made in 1967 and approximatly 24 hearttransplantations are made in Sweden each year. The purpose of this litteraturereweiw was to elucidate quality of life of hearttransplant recipients in a patient perspective. The result show that patients had a better quality of life after the hearttransplantation. However, they got new problems instead of the old ones. Patients who feelt rather well before transplantation also feelt better afterwards. Patients who had a positive view of life had better copingstrategies and therefore experienced a better quality of life. To enhance quality of life and help patients improve their coping strategies there is a need for encreased knowledge about their situation of life, both among the nursing staff and the general public.Additional research is needed in this area especially concerning quality of life and coping strategies in a longitudinal perspective.
