Abstract [sv]
In our essay we investigate how small and mediumsized firms in the Swedish landscape of Halland perform their produktdevelopment activities and how they use external information for this cause. We have studied 10 manufacturing enterprises with 10-99 employees and in different lines of business in order to see the great variation in their efforts. The result shows that there are only a few persons in the company that are initially involved in the productdevelopment process. Thus these persons effect the final result very strongly. Our paper also shows that customers are the far most important external actors in the product development process. Other important results are the great importance of informal work and the fact that the common attitude to innovation is of a rective nature rather than proactive. The later means that the enterprises work on a customer order basis rather than searching for new opportunities by them selves.
