Abstract [sv]
The aim of this study was to describe the eating experience in individuals with serve heart failure. The disease is common, especially in high age. Both the disease and the treatment can cause a variety of symptoms, which in turn can affects the eating. Data was collected through interviews with seven individuals with severe heart failure. The analysis was based on a phenomenological method from a caring perspective. In the result, it emerged that the individuals with severe heart failure experienced the eating as a transition, strain, mastering and motivation. These experienced were related and dependet on each other. The individuals with severe heart failure are seriously ill and experienced a transition as well as strain in connection to eating. The individuals also needed to master the difficulties related to eating and to have motivation to be able to live on and to regain the strength to forward life. The nursing care for these individuals should be based on knowledge of their own experience of eating.
