Abstract [sv]

The basis of the essay is the exhibition of Hälsingborg in 1955. The principal aim has been to put the ideas of H55 in relation to the 1940-50’s housing policy and the research of housing with the 20th century’s earlier housing exhibitions. The basis of H55 was Man and his surroundings. The essay shows that H55 brought up and further developed several thoughts that occurred in contemporary housing policy and earlier exhibitions. Despite H55’s large range, the aim was focused on a limited area everyday and everyday things which accorded with earlier exhibitions. A main thought was that house-building should be rationalized and that a scientific research of housing should be performed. This thought also appeared in contemporary housing policy and in earlier exhibitions. Further themes in H55 and earlier exhibitions were the emphasis of individual as well as community, along with kitchen and living room.
