Abstract [sv]

The purpose with this essay is to investigate four of the major daily newspaper´s coverage concerning Mona Sahlin actions surrounding her private use of her official credit card. The newspapers which editorials are analysed are Aftonbladet, Dagens Nyheter, Svenska Dagbladet and Expressen. The basic thesis is: Did the media study Sahlin´s action based on facts or did they use certain tricks to overdramatise the contents of the editorials? From this thesis one can be more precise by answering the following questions: 1. How did the four different newspapers describe the Sahlin-story? 2. Did the morningspapers differ in their reports from the evenings papers? 3. Could one distinguish an ideological difference in the newspaper´s coverage of the story? The result of the first questions is that the Sahlin-story is being differently portrayed in the newspapers, the story is relatively angeled by the opinions of the newspapers. The second questions gave the result that both the morning- and the evening papers are using tricks to over dramatise the contents, although the evening papers tend to practice this on a higher level than the mornings papers. The answer to questions three is one could distinguish an ideological difference of the newspaper´s coverage of the story. Expressen and Svenska Dagbladet are much more judgmental in their opinions while Dagens Nyheter is more neutral. Aftonbladet, however, tries to cover up the story to their best ability.
