Photodetector for x-ray emission
Halmstad University, School of Information Science, Computer and Electrical Engineering (IDE).
2001 (English)Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor)Student thesis
Abstract [en]
We use large x-ray doses in our hospitals every day for patient diagnosis. In order to make sure that the doses are correct, it is very important to be able to measure them accurately. Today, this calibration is done using so called photomultiplier tubes (PMTs). These instruments are bulky, expensive and require high energy for their function. The aim of this project is to study the possibility of replacing PMTs by a semiconductor based photodetector module that is more compacts, cheaper and more accurate. The most important part of the project is theoretically description of how photodiode works and the different factors that effects it. In generally there are two types of photodiode discussed in the report. It is also handled scintillator, and how we can apply them with photodiode as a detector for x-ray emission.
