Abstract [sv]

We have created a graphical user interface (GUI) for an application named PIUMS which deals with protein analysis. PIUMS is short for “Protein Identification Using Mass Spectrometry data”. PIUMS takes data from a mass spectrometer and identifies which proteins that are likely to have given rise to the recorded peptide spectrum by comparing it against a database. The typical user of PIUMS is a biologist or a chemist with small or no knowledge in programming. The GUI simplifies the use of all functions in the PIUMS application and presents graphically results from different step in the analysis. In addition, the GUI renders possible the opportunity to have PIUMS located on a server, which does all calculations. This allows several clients to connect to the same server at the same time. The GUI also makes the interactive use of PIUMS platform independent.
