The aim of this essay is to situate Terry Pratchett’s novel “Equal Rites”, to define and describe its genre using the keywords, “fantastic”, “carnivalesque”, interrogative and “Bildungsroman”. I analyse and explain what their implications are using John Stephen’s schema of charateristics of interrogative texts.
