Abstract [sv]
The aim with this study was to investigate three things: What can motivate young people to engage in physical activity, who or what can influence young people to engage in physical activity and what needs physical activity can provide for. The theoritical framework used in the study described different aspect of motivation, socialization and needs. A qualitative interview method was used, and the ten participants were chosen using a stratetic selection based on factors such as sex, domicile, physical activity level in their spare time and cultural background. The result showed that there are several factors motivating young people to engare in physical activity. The factors identified were improved health, to feel joy, more different activities, environment situation, costs for activities and to make progress. The result also showed different factors influencing young people to engage in physical activity. Those were identified as support and encouragement from family/relatives, friends influence from coacher/teachers in sport, media´s influence and role of schollsport. Physical activity can also provide for som needs, according to results. Those were identified as social need, need of exercise, need to to develop skill and need to show ability and dignity. Hopefully, these results can give some guidance for the Public Section Health in Halmstad when they are planning interventions for the upcoming year of activity 2001.
