The main character in Lady Oracle, Joan Forster has a very interesting personality that certainly is of the kind we want to peel back layer after layer in order to reveal all the disguisted and suppressed tears and desires. Joan does not seem to be able to maintain a clear distinction between reality and fantasy. The intention with the essay is to reveal the disguisted unconscious of the main character when it comes to her desperate search for a new identity. The story is also a story of the development of a young girl or woman, a female Bildungsroman.
