Abstract [sv]
One of the public helathproblems today is physical inactivity. Most people spend much of their time indoors. Increased inactivity and obesity need to be prevented and should begin in the early childhood. Therefore knowledge about how nature and outdooractivity may promote health is very important. The aim of this study was to explore how preschoolteachers (at the “I ur och skur” activty) consider children´s physical, mental and social health are promoted in an outside environment with from outdoorpedagogy. The study is qualitative and the method used was interview. The informance were 12 people chosen strategiacally and they all worked at six different “I ur och skur” preschools in the south of Sweden. The results of the study showed; that regularly outdoors activity influnced the children´s health in a positive way, that children´s selfconfidence, fantasy and physical development were promoted through the challenges the children came across outdorr, that the social interaction between the children increased, that nature was a resource in the children´s learningsprocess and that a flexibel organisation promoted the children´s development both physically, mentally and socially. Outdoor activity can be seen as a healthpromoting factor, were children´s health should be viewd from a comprehensive perspective. Continued research is neccesary since very little research has been done in this field, also in order to find new knowledge about how to work with children to promote their health and development.
