Abstract [sv]
Previous studies have shown that most people experience at some time their work as a stress factor. The stress that occur at a workplace often affects the employees mentally, which may rusult in reduced concentration and there by working capacity. Loungstanding stress may cause health problems, like cardiovascular heart diseases. One of the professional groups that is strongly exposed to workrelated stress, are teachers. The aim of study was to conduct a survey of the occurrence of workrelated stress among upper secondary school teachers. The sample consisted of 112 teachers from three different schools in a mediumsized town in southern Sweden. Valid responses were recived from 77 teachers (response rate = 69 %). Data was collcted through a pilot questionnaire and the analysis was performed statistically. The results showed that the workload for secondary school teachers was high, that the working pace had increased in the last five years and that the work was mentally arduous. However most of the teachers during the last years felt joy at their work. Ninetyone per cent also that the power of desicion was satisfying and many teachers experienced extensive support and encouragement from colleagues and mangers.
