Abstract [sv]

This case study is about what happened to some part the Sedish national political arena after 1995, the same year as Sweden became a part of a new European collaboration. EU as a supranational power has changed the way of working for national politicans. It is sometimes difficult for them to know how to deal with directives coming from the EU. My main question is: how was directive 95/46/EU implemented in the Swedish political system. I use three different implementation theories to analyse what happened (Lennart Lundquist, Anders Sannerstedt and Risto Lampinen and Petri Uusikylä). The directive was implemented in the Swedish law in october 1995 but then several changes took place. Even at the end of 1999 there was not much satisfaction with the new law. Why did this happen? There could be several answers to this question. One is that the national politicans wanted to implement the directive but they did not know to do it. Or maybe bacause EU is such a new phenomenon, politcans have not yet learnt how to deal with this situation. I came to one major conclusion thought: It will take some years to know how to act and react as member of the European union.
