Pooh and the Critics; Different Approaches to A.A. Milne´s Winnie-the-Pooh
Halmstad University, School of Humanities (HUM).
1999 (English)Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor)Student thesis
Abstract [en]
The thesis and the aim of this independent study is to evaluate different approaches to A. A Milnes Winnie the Pooh books. The first chapter concerns reader-response theory which is the angle from which I approach the criticism I evaluate. The second chapter gives a brief background to Milne´s life, and his aims and thoughts concerning his work. The third and fourth chapters deal with criticism. Here the limitations are to find valid criticism to analyse and evaluate. The sources used include a biography base on interviews with the author, an autobiography written by Milne, and books on how to analyse and criticise children´s literature. For the methodology I use two books by R. Selden and P. Widdowson. I also refer to several books by critics who write about thei analysis of Winni the Pooh, and The House at Pooh Corner.
