Halmstad University, School of Humanities (HUM).
1999 (English)Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor)Student thesis
Abstract [en]
The Soviet communism regime implemented planned economy in Poland in the post - world war II years. Priority was given to fast industrialisation and heavy industry in the country. The Polish people suffered badly and reacted several times in riots to improve for the better. The Polish planned economy year is a long period of struggle, a struggle against the authorities and for freedom. The essay analyses the planned economy in a quite different perspective. However, some attention is given to the economic and political factors, the most important element si the civil society. The essay is focusing on the Gierek era that was a period of severe economic and social difficulties. Document have been collected and analysed both in Swweden and in Poland. The Polish people have never totally submitted to the communist society. With the strong Polish nationality and supporting catholic church it was difficult for the Party to rule the country. The level of legitimacy was low during the communist years in Poland.
