Abstract [sv]
Studies dealing with physical activity are mainly based on men and vigorous activity, from the epidemiological and physilogical point of view. Effective promotion of physical activity is, however, also dependent on research, which can explain more complex aspects physical activity. The purpose of this study is to examine the meaning of daily physical activity and the study will also describe and relate the different meanings to each other. Grounded theory has inspired the model created for this study, for exampel the strategic and theoretical selection of the sample. The main result shows four dimensions of daily physical activity: “Daily Habitual Activity”, “Daily Activity”, “Recreation Activity” and “Necessity Activity”. The degree of consciousness when the body is involved, and the purpose of daily physical activity are two mental process which relate the dimensions to each other in a model. The importance of factors such as weather, time, environment, motivation and the habit differ the dimensions, and give each dimension its characterisation. The daily physical activity can also have similar obstacles and opportunities as exercise/sports. Daily physical activity can be understood as term more distinct using this model. Each dimension suggests various strategies to get more people physically active in daily life. This study also discusses the likely consequences of the use of the term “exercise” instead of “activity” (“Daily Exercise” instead of Daily Activity”).
