Abstract [en]

This essay takes up different kinds of overlaps and how and why they are used differently by men and women, The primary material consists of four videotaped TV talkshows, The Oprah Winfrey Show and Hardtalk. Aside from giving examples of different kinds of overlaps this essay is also focused on looking into how power and dominance can be shown in the usage of overlaps. This was done by calculating male versus female successful and unsuccessful overlaps in the two Hardtalk shows. Furthermore, possible answers for the differences in male and female overlaps are taken up and discussed.
