Halmstad University, School of Humanities (HUM).
1999 (English)Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor)Student thesis
Abstract [en]
This essay is about the American Sign Language and how its word order and personal pronominal system differs from English. The survey attempts to show that American Sign Language is a language of its own and also that it has much in common with English. The aim of the essay is to find out to what extent American Sign Language differs from English in terms of word order and personal pronominal system. To be able to see differences as well as similarities the data from American Sign Language and English, respectively, are compared to each other. The hypotesis is that there are no significant differences in terms of basic structure between the two languages. In the discussion this hypothesis is supported.
